Supplemental information
-->The data set was created from three different sources of information. The main source of information was from Bureau of Land Management(BLM). The other two are from Department of Pesticide Regulation(DPR) and from Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources(DOGGR) projected sections on file. Department of Pesticide Regulation(DPR) Teal Data Center* PLSNET coverage upon which DPR PLSNET was based, approximately 19% of the State was not gridded into sections. Most of this cases involved Spanish and Mexican land grant areas that was honored by government of the United States when California become a State and subsequently excluded from the section survey process. Other areas were not sectioned because of difficulties in surveying wetlands and mountainous terrain. This surveyed areas have been gridded in the DPR PLSNET data coverage. DPR portions were digitized from 24K and 100K quads or captured by screen extrapolation and digitizing. Parameters Source Projection: Albers zone 10 Source unit: meters Source Scale: 1: 100,000 Capture Method: Screen extrapolation/digitizing Data Structure: Vector Layer size: 88.9 MB Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources(DOGGR) Some areas of California were ranchos as Spanish and Mexican land grants that were honored by the United States and subsequently excluded from the section survey process. Other areas were not sectioned because of difficulties in surveying wetlands and mountainous terrain. As a result, many Oil and Gas wells were located from "projected" section corners and some wells may not be located accurately on DOGGR's maps, especially older wells. In 1980, The Great Valley Operators' Association(composed of Chevron, Shell, Texaco, Amerada, Mobil, etc.) meet to resolve the problem and agreed on a set of projected section lines provided by Chevron as the source. A copy of the projected sections was also given to DOGGR in mylar format USGS quads, with the projected sections drawn in ink. Scope of quality information
Data quality report - Topological consistency
Evaluation method
-->The current PLSS data are in NAD83 datum. The PLSS shapefiles available before May of 2004 were in NAD27 datum The locations of Public Land Survey System - PLSS corners, as represented in geographic pairs, were derived from a variety of source documents, which includes U.S. Goverment agencies, private sectors survey firms, and local goverments. The attributes assigned to PLSS polygons were taken from the BLM Legal Land Description(LLD) data set. contained within the Legacy Rehost for the year 2000(LR2000) automated record system. The coordinate data was produced by using control stations of known location, with varying degree of accuracy, from various sources which include but not limited to; U.S. Geological Survey(USGS) topological quadrangles and other sources, National Geodetic Survey(NGS) and U.S. Coast & amp; Geodetic Survey(USC& GS), Cooperative Base Network(CBN) control, Federal Base Network(FBN) control, Continuous Operating Reference Stations(CORS), and Global Positioning System(GPS) data, which is then analyzed and adjusted in concert with official survey data for any given geographic area.
